Proetus Bookends: Archaic Forms for the Contemporary Home
The Proetus Bookends by ANAKTAE turn a practical object into a small architectural sculpture.
Handcrafted in Athens from oxidized brass, each bookend has a curved outline inspired by archaic Greek patterns. The dark, textured surface gives the metal a sense of age, while the abstract form keeps the design firmly contemporary.
Inspired by Ancient Geometry
ANAKTAE draws on Greek heritage without creating literal reproductions of historical objects. Ancient symbols and architectural forms are reduced to simple lines, balanced proportions and strong geometric silhouettes.
The Proetus collection consists of six individual bookend designs: Aether, Eris, Geras, Hybrys, Keres and Neaera. They can be purchased separately, allowing different forms to be paired or used as individual decorative objects.
Their restrained appearance makes them suitable for modern interiors, where they can add warmth and character without overwhelming a shelf or desk.
Function Meets Sculpture
The bookends work particularly well alongside art, architecture and design books. Their curved contours create a striking contrast with the straight lines of the books, while the oxidized metal complements materials such as wood, marble and natural stone.
They can also stand alone as sculptural accents on a console, mantelpiece or open shelf.
Each piece is handmade to order in Greece. Production can take up to 30 days, reflecting ANAKTAE's focus on small-scale craftsmanship rather than mass manufacturing.
